Construction What Utilities are being worked on and how do they work?
First, the
water system.
The City gets its water
from large, deep wells. The water is treated and
pumped into the distribution system.
The expansion
program will tie into this existing system and extend
lines to unserved areas. The City lines will take
the water up to a meter in the front yard. Home
owners are then responsible for connecting from their
homes to the the meter.
Secondly, the
wastewater or sewer system.
The City wastewater lines
pick up the used water from a point at the edge of the
property. Again, the property owners will connect
from their homes or businesses to the City's line.
The wastewater lines will usually connect into a gravity
sewer that flows to a local neighborhood lift station.
This is a neighborhood
lift station in Cape Coral. We will put these in
out-of-the-way places whenever possible.
The small
lift stations pump the wastewater to Master Pump
stations, which collect sewage from several areas.
This is a
master pump station here in Cape Coral. You can
see it looks like a small house on a regular lot.
The master
pump stations then pump the combined flows to the
treatment plants.
The third
system provides reclaimed water. This is also
referred to as secondary or irrigation water.
This is
treated waste water distributed from the treatment plant
back to customers who can use it to water their
lawns. Cape Coral is a leader in water reuse
technology—an important conservation tool.
The expansion program
will tie into this existing system and extend lines to
unserved areas. The new City lines will take the
secondary water up to the front yard, where the
homeowner will tie in.
